October weather in the Smokies is genuinely excellent most years. Average high temperatures run 60–70°F in the first two weeks, 55–65°F in the second two weeks. Overnight lows drop into the 40s by late October. Rain is possible — fall is a drier season than spring — but afternoon thunderstorms are less common than summer months.

If fall foliage is non-negotiable for you, start your venue search the moment you get engaged — ideally in the fall before the year you want to get married, so you can book the following October before other couples get to it.
If you're flexible within fall, September is an excellent option. Weather is often better, foliage is beginning at higher elevations, and availability is meaningfully better than October.
